Marga Zivitere, academician, professor, Doctor of economic sciences has been repeatedly elected as the Rector of the Information Systems Management Institute (ISMA). The Constitutional Assembly of the Information Systems Management Institute on April 21, 2009 repeatedly elected Professor Marga Zivitere as the Rector for the subsequent 5 years.

At the Constitutional Assembly professor Marga Zivitere presented her vision of the development of the Institute, talked about the main directions and priorities of education, defining interdisciplinary cooperation and development of skills during the learning process, training of leadership and risk acceptance skills, openness and development of new forms of international cooperation among higher education institutions thus contributing to the education quality and competitiveness of the Institute.

At the times when debates on education go on in Latvia, ISMA takes great care of efficiency and quality of the study programmes in order to provide to the students an opportunity to acquire competitive education. According to the the survey which was performed by the newspaper “Latvijas Avize” last year, ISMA rates as number 12 among the 34 state and private higher education institutions in Latvia. In order to compare the universities, quantitative indicators of higher education were chosen to characterize the following areas: students, personnel, international co-operation, research and development and others.

Professor Marga Zivitere, Doctor of economic sciences, has contributed her knowledge and competence to the establishing of ISMA and has facilitated its development, has elaborated and managed the Master’s degree professional study programme and at present she is the Director of the highest level study programme  - the Doctor’s degree study programme “Business Administration”.

Professor Marga Zivitere actively cooperates with higher education institutions in Latvia and abroad, she is a member of the Association of Professors of Higher Learning Association of Latvia, as well as the representative of ISMA at the Confederation of Employers of Latvia and at the Traders’ Association of Latvia.

Professor Marga Zivitere has been working in the field of education since 1954, from 1967-1980 she worked at Riga Technical University as a lecturer and associate professor, from 1980 till 1993 at Latvia University of Agriculture as the Head of Economics Department and as an associate professor, from 1993 till 1998 she worked at Riga Aviation University as a professor, Deputy Dean and Deputy Rector, since 1998 she has been working at Information Systems Management Institute ISMA, initially as  pro-rector, but since 2004 as the Rector.

M. Zivitere is the author of 94 scientific publications, 2 brochures, 35 scientific reports, 17 handbooks teaching materials.
