Lifelong Learning Programme
The new European Union Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) 2007–2013
Lifelong Learning Programme is established on the basis of previously existing “Socrates”, “Leonardo da Vinci”, “eLearning”, “Europass” and other Community programmes with the aim to facilitate the cooperation of institutions in the fields of education and vocational training in European scale. The programme is in action from January 2007 until December 2013. This is the only cooperation programme wide enough to incorporate all types and levels of education, and which can be entered at any stage of life (please, do not mix with previously widespread concepts, intended for ages outside of the formal education framework).
The new programme consists of 4 sectoral programmes: Comenius—for primary education, Erasmus—for higher education, Leonardo—for vocational education and Grundtvig—for grown-up education; moreover, the programme includes the Transversal programme for languages, ICT and policy, and Jean Monnet for support of European integration. It is expemcted that Switzerland and West-Balkanian countries will also join the programme exiting Tempus.
There are two agencies administrating Lifelong Learning Programme in Latvia:
- State Education Development Agency (VIAA) administrates Leonardo da Vinci programme;
- Academic Programme Agency (APA) administrates Comenius, Erasmus, Grundtvig and Transversal programmes.
