I’m Thilina Ekanayake, a 4th-semester business administration student, and my Erasmus+ experience at Hochschule Schmalkalden in Germany has been transformative. The university, located in a charming small town, provided an enriching academic environment with experienced professors and excellent facilities, including modern labs and a well-equipped library.
I stayed in the university dormitory, which offered a great opportunity to connect with students from around the world. The cultural diversity on campus was a highlight, particularly for my tourism studies. The weekly student parties helped me form lasting friendships and enhance my intercultural communication skills.
During the winter semester, I explored the historic town of Schmalkalden and its surrounding natural beauty, including medieval castles and trails in the Thuringian Forest. Traveling across Germany during the festive season added a magical touch to my experience.
The Erasmus+ application process was straightforward, and I received great support from my coordinator, Karina Lazareva, which made the transition to Germany smooth and stress-free.
